Liposuction

Liposuction treatment remodels the figure in those areas of the body affected by an accumulation of surplus fat. Thanks to this technique you can achieve very good permanent results in the areas of the body treated, particularly when the skin is firm and elastic. It is fundamental to have a correct indication by an expert plastic surgeon.

Liposuction is the treatment indicated to remove localized fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. It is therefore not a way to solve obesity or to facilitate weight loss.

WHY LIPOSUCTION TREATMENT?

Through liposuction, fatty deposits are sucked up and disappear, giving the silhouette back its harmony as soon as the procedure is complete. For this reason, it is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures in Spain and the world.

It can be applied to different parts of the body, although the most common areas are the abdomen, the sides, the trochanters (flabby thighs), upper legs, knees and buttocks, as these areas offer the best results.

YOUR FIRST CONSULTATION

During this first consultation the plastic surgeon will assess your general status, the existing fatty deposits and the tone and firmness of your skin. Once this evaluation has been completed, you will be n the available options and given a personal recommendation for the individually chosen surgical technique that is most suitable for your anatomy. He or she will also clear up any doubts you may have.

LIPOSUCTION TECHNIQUE

Liposuction consists in the aspiration of subcutaneous fatty deposits through the ion of a fine cannula connected to a vacuum system. The cannulae are very thin and are ed through small incisions in the skin, leaving a scar that is practically invisible to the naked eye.

The technique we use in our liposuction treatments is known as the tumescent technique, consisting in the prior infiltration of the area to be treated with a diluted anaesthetic solution (adrenalin and lidocaine). It is normally done under local anaesthesia and mild  intravenous sedation. The duration varies between 45 and 120 minutes depending on the areas to be treated.

ANAESTHESIA

In order to guarantee the maximum safety, prior to the date scheduled for surgery, an anaesthesiologist carries out a personalized medical evaluation, as in every procedure conducted at Clínica Londres. During the procedure, our anaesthesiologist will take care of your safety and comfort at all times. Your health comes first.

Liposuction treatment is usually conducted under local anaesthesia and sedation, as an ambulatory procedure, in other words without admission to hospital. The region of the body to be operated on is anaesthetized and this is supplemented by SEDATION, i.e. the administration of tranquilizers and painkillers through a drip. The patient feels relaxed and is free from pain. It is also possible to use epidural anaesthesia or general anaesthesia.

RECOVERY FROM LIPOSUCTION TREATMENT

Patients return home a few hours after surgery (from 2 to 4 hours), depending on the volume of the areas treated, and will be able to resume normal activities after 2 or 3 days.

The post-operative period is easily tolerated overall, as any discomfort caused by the procedure are not significant.

Nonetheless, in the weeks following the procedure, the area treated undergoes some inflammation, which gradually reduces before disappearing by the third month. A corset, compression tights or elastic bandage will be applied for 4 weeks to the area treated to control swelling and help the skin to adapt to its new outline. Liposuction scars are minimal and are strategically located to remain hidden.

RESULTS

The results of liposuction treatment are excellent from the first moment, as the fat disappears during the surgical session itself. The final outcome can be observed after the 4th month, once the inflammation has disappeared. Achieving the same effect without liposuction would a generally long period of diet and exercise, and in some parts of the body it would be impossible without liposuction.

After liposuction, we recommend you follow careful dietary habits and engage in a minimum level of exercise so that the fat does not build up again.
