Facelifts

A facelift or tightening of the facial skin is a surgical procedure to improve the visible signs of ageing in the face and neck. It is one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery, indicated for people over 40 years of age.

WHY THIS PROCEDURE?

As the years go by, the skin and muscles in the face to lose their tone and elasticity. A facelift cannot stop the ageing process, but it is certainly possible to improve its most visible signs by increasing the tension in the deeper structures, re-adapting the skin on the neck and face, and removing ed areas of skin.

The best candidates are those whose neck and face have begun to relax, but the skin is still quite elastic.

TECHNIQUES USED

The techniques currently used differ greatly from those in place years ago, when the aim was only to stretch the skin. Nowadays, a lot of emphasis is placed on relocating the internal structures that have become flaccid or have sagged over time. This allows us to achieve a much more natural and harmonious effect.

Facelifts can be done on their own or can be used to complement other procedures such as eyelid surgery, the application of laser technology (resurfacing) to eliminate crows’ feet, liposuction of a double chin, etc.

The scars are located in different places depending on the type of facelift. However they are always disguised in strategic areas such as the folds behind the ear or under the hair, making them very difficult to see.

ANAESTHESIA

Local anaesthesia with sedation is habitually used so that the patient is totally relaxed and insensitive to pain. During the procedure, our anaesthesiologist will take care your safety and comfort at all times. Your health comes first. General anaesthesia is used in more complex casesl.

DURATION OF THE OPERATION

The procedure takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on the type of correction to be made. The procedure is performed on an ambulatory basis or with admission to hospital depending on the complexity of the technique.

DURECOVERY

Recovery is fast and, overall, the post-operative period is easily tolerated as the discomfort caused by the procedure are not significant. Even so, your surgeon will recommend avoiding activities that a physical effort during the first few days after the operation. Most patients are able to resume their normal tasks after a week or so. During the first week after the procedure, it is preferable not to go outdoors because of the post-surgical inflammation of the face. Furthermore, it is not a good idea to sunbathe during the first three months after the surgery.

RESULTS

The result of the operation is immediately apparent, although there is logically inflammation that will last for 2 to 3 months. To keep these results, it is a good idea to use complementary medical and cosmetic treatments.
