LThe skin in the eyelids is the thinnest skin in the face and the first to the effects of time’s passing. As the years go by, its properties change and it tends to droop over the eyelashes, losing the consistency characterizing a youthful gaze. There comes a time when this skin folds over the upper eyelid and fat accumulates to produce anti-aesthetic “bags” under the eyes, giving an appearance of tiredness or discouragement that often does not match reality.
Modern facial surgery has achieved many important advances to obtain a harmonious rejuvenation of the face.
WHY THIS PROCEDURE?
Blepharoplasty allows this excess skin to be removed along with the “bags of fat” in the eyelids that give the person’s gaze a sad or tired appearance, and may help improve the vision of elderly individuals with a considerable excess of drooping eyelid.
TECHNIQUES USED
Blepharoplasty is individually designed for each patient, depending on the specific needs of each one. It can be done separately for each of the upper eyelids, then the lower ones, or both together, and also in combination with other surgical procedures for facial remodelling such as eyebrow lifting. In the case of the upper eyelid, we can remove the excess skin through a minimal incision at the root of the eyelashes. For the lower eyelids, the idea is to them to their original position, i.e. slightly curved inwards. We the fat through a minimal incision in the conjunctive tissue.
ANAESTHESIA
Blepharoplasty is normally performed under local anaesthesia with sedation so that the patient is totally relaxed and insensitive to pain. During the procedure, our anaesthesiologist will take care your safety and comfort at all times.
DURATION OF THE OPERATION
The duration of the procedure varies between 60 minutes, in the case of one eyelid, and 90 minutes for both, although it may vary slightly depending on the type of correction to be performed.
It is a procedure that is generally performed on an ambulatory basis (without admission to hospital).
RECOVERY
Recovery is very speedy and, overall, the post-operative period is easily tolerated. Most patients can go about their daily tasks as normal after 2 or 3 days.
RESULTS
The results are immediate and definitive.
